The United Nations Global Compact is a global platform for business and non-business entities to proactively network and engage in areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. Participation in the UN Global Compact is a widely visible commitment to the implementation, disclosure, and promotion of its ten universal principles.
Local Networks, such as the UK Network, are clusters of participants who come together to advance the UN Global Compact and its principles within a particular geographic context. Our role is to help companies engage in the UN Global Compact with respect to implementation of the Ten Principles, and create opportunities for multi-stakeholder engagement and collective action.
Companies with annual turnover greater than USD 50 million are required to make an annual financial contribution to support the work of the UN Global Compact.
For companies below that threshold and non-business organisations, there is no mandatory fee to join the UN Global Compact.

For companies that are subject to a mandatory fee at the global level, UK Network membership is included without incurring any additional cost.
For organisations that are not required to make an annual financial contribution at the global level, UK Network membership is optional and subject to an annual membership fee. For 2018, the UK Network fees are £2895 +VAT for large companies, £1880 +VAT for medium-sized businesses and £515 +VAT for small companies and non-business members.
For companies subject to a mandatory fee at the global level, UK Network membership is included. However, though strongly encouraged, participation in Network activities is not a requirement.
For organisations not subject to a mandatory fee at the global level, there is no obligation to join the UK Network. However, many UN Global Compact Participants and Signatories find that engaging the Local Network enables them to get more out of their UN Global Compact involvement. Joining the Local Network enables organisations to engage locally on issues relating to the Ten Principles, participate in cross sector events and exchange with peers.
There are many benefits of membership, but for many organisations the key issues are:
- support in fulfilling the UN Global Compact’s requirement for communication on progress;
- regular meetings and events, which provide excellent learning and networking opportunities;
- staying informed about GCO activities;
- enhanced relations with other UN agencies.
If your organisation is subject to a mandatory fee at the global level, your UK Network membership is automatically included. However, we please ask you to provide us with the following information at firstname.lastname@example.org:
- Full contact details for the day-to-day contact(s) in the organisation;
- Names and email addresses for anyone in your organisation that you would like to receive our monthly newsletter;
- Short description of your organisation (50 words) and your logo;
- Permission (or not) to announce your membership on our website, newsletter and twitter.
If your organisation is not subject to a mandatory fee at the global level, UK Network membership is optional and incur a membership fee. Please consult our 2018 Fee Schedule here. If you would like to join, please contact us at email@example.com. We will ask you to provide the same information + your address details for sending the invoice and a PO# if needed.
