Our Advocacy Approach

Running a successful and responsible business is perhaps more challenging today than ever, and public policy critically affects the ability of the UK private sector to conduct business in line with responsible, sustainable standards.

The Government has a pivotal role to play in fostering a business ecosystem that rewards sustainability, resilience, and responsible growth. Leading businesses are already pioneering solutions, and they stand ready to work alongside policymakers to advance a green, inclusive, and sustainable economy, one that creates jobs, drives innovation, and secures a thriving future for all.

The UN Global Compact Network UK actively engages with public policy where relevant to the Ten Principles and our mission.

In doing so, we will:

  • Keep members up to date on policy changes which could impact their business, and mobilise our members to engage with policymakers on these issues.
  • Address existing policy barriers that prevent businesses from operating sustainably. This may involve responding to policy consultations and making recommendations to policymakers.
  • Not seek to represent the views of the whole participant base or indicate that recommendations represent the views of participants collectively.
  • Base our comments on high-quality research containing well-considered arguments and proposals that are rigorously defendable.
