Who we are:
This privacy policy is issued on behalf of the Global Compact Network UK (“Global Compact Network UK”, "we", "us", or "our"), an independent legal entity established to advance the mission and principles of the UN Global Compact in the UK.
The United Nations Global Compact (“UN Global Compact”) is a multi-stakeholder voluntary initiative, calling companies to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals.
Global Compact Network UK is a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales with headquarters in London. We are the controller of personal data of data subjects processed by Global Compact Network UK.
For the avoidance of doubt, we are not the controller of personal data processed by the United Nations Global Compact.
Purpose of this privacy policy
This privacy policy describes how we use, store, disclose, and process personal data and applies to all websites and mobile applications linking to or posting this privacy policy (each a “Site”) in compliance with UK law that supplements and replaces the GDPR (including the UK Data Protection Act 2018 as may be amended from time to time (including by the various Data Protection, Privacy and Electronic Communications (Amendments etc) (EU Exit) Regulations) and the guidelines of applicable supervisory authorities (together, “Data Protection Law”).
The terms “personal data”, “process”, “processor”, “processing”, “data subject”, “controller”, “personal data breach”, and “supervisory authority” shall have the meaning ascribed to it in the GDPR or equivalent Data Protection Law (as applicable).
We may supplement this privacy policy with specific privacy notices tailored to our communications with you or with regard to specific programs or projects. You will be provided with such additional privacy notices when appropriate.
1. Data we collect
a) Data you provide to us
We may collect certain personal data during the course of our normal operations, including but not limited to: name, email address, and contact details of organisation representatives.
We may collect certain personal data when you enter in some of our programmes or activities (such as events, webinars, and working groups).
When you contact us directly via email, we use the personal data provided in your email to respond to your questions or comments. We may also store your comments for future reference.
b) Data we collect
By accessing our Site certain data about you and your devices, such as Internet protocol (IP) address, navigation through the Site, the software used and the time spent on the site, along with other similar data, will be stored on our servers. We also may collect any telephone number from which you contact us.
The UN Global Compact shares personal data with us about data subjects located in the United Kingdom derived from UN Global Compact participating organisations.
To officially become members of the Global Compact Network UK (“Members”), UN Global Compact participating organisations are asked to provide data of their representative personnel who will act as the day-to-day contact for the Global Compact Network UK. We collect and process the following data necessary to administer our programmes and communicate with our Members: full name, email address, job title, work phone, and work address. These subscriptions are based on the consent of the person who receives the Newsletters. Recipients may
withdraw their consent at any time by pushing “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of any email Newsletter received or by sending a request to stop the subscription at secretariat@unglobalcompact.org.uk
c) Cookies
We use “cookies” and similar technologies on our websites to help us interact with users. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a site visitor’s hard drive to help us improve user access to our site, identify repeat visitors to our site, and analyse website usage.

2. How we use your personal data
We use your personal data through our Site or from your organisation’s application to the UN Global Compact for one or more of the following purposes, based on our legitimate interest:
- register you as the designated day-to-day contact for a Member or prospective Member;
- manage our relationship and status with your organisation as a Member based on our legitimate interest;
- notify you and your organisation about specific engagement opportunities (including events, webinars, working groups, etc.) available to Members or prospective Members and other information on activities, resources, and reports that we sponsor with other Global Compact Local Networks (see a full list here: https://www.unglobalcompact.org/engage-locally);
- contact you about changes to our policies;
- receive communications concerning an individual role you undertake as part of the governance of the UN Global Compact and/or Global Compact Network UK and/or other joint initiatives;
- contact you about participating in surveys;
- manage the implementation of the UN Global Compact integrity processes by UN Global Compact participating organisations and our Members, including through formal and informal engagement; and
- respond to inquiries about UN Global Compact application and participation and reporting requirements.
- In addition, if you provide us with your consent to contact you, we may use your personal data to:
- send you Newsletters;
- communicate with representatives of UN Global Compact participating organisations and our Members to ensure these organisations benefit from their participation. The benefits of participation are listed in the UN Global Compact Brochure and Global Compact Network UK’s Value Proposition;
- send you tailored communications to flag relevant engagement opportunities;
- send you details of events, webinars, and/or other programmes such as reminders, calendar date/time, location, parking, or on-line access;
- confirm and administer your participation in online training events;
- provide access and security details such as your User ID and password;
- deliver relevant content to you and measure or understand the effectiveness of that content with your consent; and
- use data analytics to improve our Sites with your

Your personal data will be used for the purposes of advancing the work of the Global Compact Network UK and the UN Global Compact. Your data will be kept confidential and access will be limited to the Global Compact Network UK Secretariat, UN Global Compact (based in the United States), and service providers with whom we have entered into data processing agreements.
We may share personal data of Members with the UN Global Compact to administer our programs. We share personal data with hosts, sponsors, and speakers (“Event
Partners”) of events that you attend for the purposes of producing and managing events. We post the names of these Event Partners on our website or the event agenda.
We also share personal data with our third-party service providers such as Zoom, Eventbrite, and Pardot for the purpose of receiving the services these providers perform for us.
We may disclose personal data in response to a court order, subpoena, law enforcement proceeding, regulatory inquiry or as otherwise legally required by statute, government regulation or case law to the extent necessary to comply with national security, public interest, or law enforcement requirements.
4. How long we keep data
We store personal data, in a form which permits us to identify individuals, for no longer than is necessary for the purpose for which the personal data is processed. We use your personal data as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements and rights. Once personal data is no longer required for processing, we will destroy, delete, or anonymise it.

We maintain technical and organisational security measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access and disclosure that are consistent with our operations and generally accepted industry standards. These measures include the implementation of technical, physical, and administrative security safeguards. We have established policies and procedures for securely managing personal data and protecting personal data against unauthorized access.

Our Site may contain links to other websites that are not covered by this privacy policy and where information practices may be different from ours. Please be aware that the terms of this privacy policy do not apply to these outside websites or content, or to any collection of data after you click on links to such outside websites. Our provision of a link to any other website or location is for your convenience and does not signify our endorsement of such other website or location or its contents.
7. Data privacy rights
You have various rights under Data Protection Laws in relation to your personal data that we process.
