SDG Pioneer 2

Chosen from a number of outstanding nominations, the UN Global Compact Network UK is proud to acknowledge Fran Baker as a business leader who is championing the SDGs.

As the winner of the national round, Fran will now compete in the global round along with other candidates for the title of 2020 UN Global Compact SDG Pioneers. The global winners will be announced in June, 2021 at the UN Global Compact Virtual Leaders Summit.

Fran Baker is a passionate advocate for technology as an enabler for the Global Goals. Her work centres on extending the benefits of technology products and services to those who are typically excluded, ensuring that no one is left behind.

As Social Innovation Lead at Arm, Fran provides strategic direction for social impact at scale, working with key partners – including UNICEF Innovation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation – to kickstart global initiatives that build on Arm’s business capabilities to address complex societal challenges. As part of Arm’s COVID-19 taskforce, Fran rapidly engaged in partnerships to create low-cost, easily replicable COVID detection and prevention solutions for low-resource settings, as well as cultivating longer-term pandemic solutions. Fran catalysed Arm’s engagement with the UNGC SDG Young Innovator Programme and will support Arm’s second cohort into 2021.

Along with Fran, we recognise 4 finalists for their contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals:

Alicia Winter – Mott MacDonald
Alicia has played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the Group Carbon Neutral Policy, which has enabled Mott MacDonald’s success in becoming the first company of their class to be certified carbon neutral globally. Alicia continues to drive sustainability within the company and on projects to ensure the SDGs are at the heart of their delivery.

Ashling Mulvaney – AstraZeneca
Supporting the delivery of the SDG goals, Ashling realigned all of AstraZeneca’s work and narrative on access to healthcare, working towards a future where all people have access to sustainable healthcare solutions for life-changing treatment and prevention.

David Orr – Mott MacDonald
David supported colleagues to embed the SDGs, climate, and social inclusion considerations into large infrastructure projects around the globe, making them more inclusive and impactful for beneficiaries. He matched these efforts with research publications on sustainable business practices.

Stephanie Corker –
WASSERMAN Experience LTD
Stephanie’s focus has been on a number of initiatives to ensure her fellow colleagues better understand why Diversity and Inclusion should be important to us all and that by engaging in sometimes difficult and uncomfortable conversations we are better able to lean in and support each other.
