Expectations for COP29
24 October 10:00 am to 11:00 am BST
COP29 in Azerbaijan will be a critical moment to embed ambitious commitments on finance and adaptation into the global climate agenda. Key focus areas include setting a New Collective Quantified Goal for climate finance, designing clear targets and delivery for the Global Goal on Adaptation, encouraging Nationally Determined Contributions to reflect the growing accountability of nations in the next round of commitments, and building consensus around the use of carbon markets for global mitigation efforts.
Past COPs have demonstrated that negative climate lobbying from corporations and trade associations can water down the desired policies and actions needed to achieve these goals. By engaging with and observing COP negotiations, businesses can build regulatory foresight whilst advocating for commitments that support the private sector to contribute to goals across finance and adaptation at a local, national, and global level.
To help businesses stay ahead of the global climate action agenda, learn about the expectations of different stakeholders for COP29, and take part in a wider discussion around key negotiations, the UN Global Compact Network UK is hosting a 1-hour long Q&A Surgery, open to UK Network members only.

AI and Sustainability
Thursday 5 September, 10:00 – 11:00 BST
This session brought together leading innovators from business and academia to discuss the key innovations, challenges, and implications for climate and nature resulting from the growing demand for AI in the UK. It also explored the current discourse around energy use trade-offs associated with AI data centres, the measures being taken to reduce these impacts, and why AI development must be directed towards areas where it can generate the greatest climate impact.
